FAQ
Why won't SkookumMorse work with my keyer?
SkookumMorse is tested with genuine K1EL products with FTDI USB interfaces; specifically , the WinKeyer USB, WinKeyer Lite, and WinKeyer Mini, with version 2.x, version 3.0 or version 3.1 firmware. Contact me , not Steve, if you have problems with those products.
Some keyers claim to be WinKeyers but in fact do not contain the K1EL chip. Most are software emulations of questionable quality, sometimes with a USB interface not supported in macOS. In those cases, contact the supplier of your keyer.
Why doesn't SkookumMorse decode Morse for me?
What fun would that be?
Why doesn't tapping a function key send a message?
Function keys are not directly accessible by default in macOS; you need to hold down the fn key along with the function key. To avoid needing to press the fn key, check the “Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys” box on the Keyboard tab of the Keyboard & Mouse System Preferences pane.
Why doesn't SkookumMorse have a way to set the speed?
The software author (that would be me) believes that the potentiometer is the ideal user interface for varying CW speed.
On the other hand, the Lite and Mini don't always have speed knobs. A future version could address that, based on user input.
Why won't SkookumMorse send anything?
If you type { into the keyboard field and it turns yellow before you have typed two additional characters, sending will stall. Tap Abort to recover.
